Opening the session of the Disciplinary Commission of the Milli Majlis on 2 August, Commission Chairman Eldar Ibrahimov told the participants that the item at issue was lifting the parliamentary immunity of MP Eldaniz Salimov (Khachmaz Town Election District no 55) on Azerbaijan Republic General Prosecutor Kamran Aliyev’s application to Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Such applications have to be considered by the Disciplinary Commission pursuant to the Internal Regulations of the Milli Majlis.

Prosecutor General’s Office has examined the files on MP Eldaniz Salimov and opened an occurrence under Article 309.2 (misfeasance) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic. The criminal case is put in the charge of the Investigation Department of Prosecutor General’s Office; the judicial scrutiny is in the active phase right now. However, an MP holds inviolability subject to the Constitution; hence the need to strip Eldaniz Salimov of it.

MP Eldaniz Salimov spoke at the same meeting to acknowledge himself in the wrong and to state penitence.

The Commission members Fazail Agamali, Hikmat Mammadov, Nizami Jafarov, Afat Hasanova, Malahat Ibrahimghizi, Nasib Mahamaliyev, Mashhur Mammadov and Mader Musayev as well as Commission Secretary Nurlan Hasanov were heard. Then, it was recommended that the issue of lifting the parliamentary immunity of Eldaniz Salimov should be brought before the House at a plenary session.

With that, the meeting of the Disciplinary Commission of the Milli Majlis was over.
