Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Held Meetings with Speakers of Several Countries’ Parliaments in Geneva

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova held meetings with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Ireland Verona Murphy and Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova Igor Grosu in the course of her working visit to the city of Geneva of the Swiss Confederation on 30 July.
The importance of the international activities of parliaments and parliamentary diplomacy was highlighted at the meeting with Verona Murphy. It was stressed that the events of the Inter-Parliamentary Union are of great significance both in terms of strengthening the ties between the peoples and for the collaborative efforts of parliaments in addressing global challenges and issues affecting all countries and nations.
The necessity of further strengthening ties between the Parliaments of Azerbaijan and Ireland was emphasised during the discussion. The significance of inter-parliamentary friendship groups for the development of co-operation was also pointed up, and a mutual commitment was voiced to continue enhancing these ties in the future.
The meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova saw contentment being expressed with the high level of the relations between our countries. The mutual support of Azerbaijan and Moldova in international organisations was brought up as well.
It was emphasised at the discussion that ties between the Parliaments constitute an important facet of the relations between our countries; the current elevated level of relations established between our Parliaments, both on a bilateral and multilateral basis, was highly commended, too. Particular significance was attributed to the activities of friendship groups in our Parliaments and to the mutual visits of various delegations.
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova also held meetings with Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Qoşanov and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire Adama Bictogo on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
At those meetings, the Speakers exchanged views on matters concerning the relations between our Parliaments.
In particular, it was said that the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments provides an excellent opportunity for exchanging perspectives on issues of common interest to legislative bodies, and the importance of co-operation on such significant international platforms was underlined.
