Ali Javad oglu Ahmadov

First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan since 23 September 2024.

Born in the village of Dere in the Basarkecher Province of the Republic of Armenia on 27 January 1953. Graduated from the Department of History of Moscow State Institute for History and Archive. PhD Philosophy, Associate Professor. Decorated with the Sharaf Order and the Shohrat Order. Decorated with the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. Authored 1 textbook and more than 50 academic works.

Member of the World Azerbaijanis’ Co-ordination Council.

Senior Research Fellow of the Chief Archive Department of Azerbaijan and Head of the Central Chief Academic Archive of the Academy of Sciences since 1975. Laboratory assistant, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Head of Department at the Azerbaijan State University since 1980. Head of Department in the Executive Staff of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan since 1997 and Head of the Khatai District (Baku City) Executive Authority during 1999-2000. Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 22 October 2013 to 23 September 2024.

Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party. Executive Secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party during 1999-2021.

Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the 2nd and 3rd convocations.

Co-Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Co-operation Commission of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

Married, with two children.

The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan - The state legislative power branch organ is a unicameral parliament that has 125 MPs. The MPs are elected as based on the majority electoral system by free, private and confidential vote reliant on the general, equitable and immediate suffrage. The tenure of a Milli Majlis convocation is 5 years.
