Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 15 September with the visiting delegation led by Su Hui, Deputy Chairwoman of the All-China Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

At the meeting, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova broached the elevation of the links between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Republic of China to the level of strategic partnership.

According to the Speaker, the high-level meetings of the Heads of State and the documents signed are pivotal in the deepening and development of the relations of our states in all the areas. It was stressed also that the latest state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to China marked a historic phase in the deepening of the bilateral relations.

The successful co-operation between our countries in numerous fields and the parties’ constantly demonstrable mutual support were spoken of next. Azerbaijan has always supported the ‘One China’ policy and China’s territorial integrity unequivocally. Also, Azerbaijan appreciates highly China’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country; besides, our countries protect each other’s interests in international organisations.

The role of the regular contacts built between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of China in the progress of the bilateral political relations and the projects implemented in the context of the ‘One Belt. One Road’ initiative of the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China by Azerbaijan as the first country to back that undertaking were discussed as the meeting drew on. The significance of the co-operation to ensure the development of the Middle Corridor was high-lit, too.

Satisfaction was then witnessed with the deepening of the economic, trading, humanitarian, academic, cultural and other sorts of co-operation; the role of the ties between the two main drivers of the two countries’ cultural and humanitarian exchanges, namely, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and their inputs in our states and peoples were emphasised as well.

Addressing the significance of the co-operation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and China, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underlined the special attention that the Milli Majlis attached to a continued strengthening of the interaction with the Chinese colleagues. The mutual connexions working groups active in the legislative assemblies of both states play a substantial role in progressing towards that end.

Thanking for the meeting, Deputy Chairwoman of the All-China Committee of the of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Su Hui remarked that that was her first visit to Azerbaijan before sharing her impressions. The guest also made known her ideas as to the progress of the relations between our countries and parliaments, the joint efforts in the name of the ‘One Belt. One Road’ project, the development vectors of the Chinese economy and the prospects of the mutual connexions.   

As the conversation continued, the guest told about the workings, structure and parties’ representation in the All-China Committee of the of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and about also of the political system of China. She thanked Azerbaijan for her support for the ‘One China’ course and commented on the prospects of the bilateral relations.

Also, the meeting had an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared concern.
