Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Chairwoman of Congress of Deputies of Kingdom of Spain

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with Chairwoman of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain Francina Armengol on the sidelines of the 11th Summit of G20 Speakers of Parliament in the city of Cape Town.

Recalling her first visit to Spain and meeting with the Chairwoman of the Congress of Deputies in May this year, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis remarked that reciprocal visits and meetings generated sound opportunities to develop the bilateral relations, and emphasised this visit’s contribution to the progress of the links between our countries and parliaments.

The importance of a continued expansion of the ties between our legislative bodies was underlined during the conversation. Also, it was said that contacts between parliamentary delegations could make a positive input in our relationship.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova provided information about the current situation in the region, the peace settlement process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the restoration and building work in the de-occupied territories. Chairwoman of the Congress of Deputies Francina Armengol congratulated on the initialling of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia and said that Spain supported steps taken to ensure peace and security in the region.

The meeting also had an exchange of opinions about other matters of interest to both sides.
