Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Chairman of Parliament of Croatia

The parliamentary delegation led by Chairman of the Parliament of Croatia Gordan Jandroković, in our country on an official visit, have called at the Milli Majlis on 8 October.

After the guests had been acquainted with the Plenary Chamber of the Parliament, they went to the Heydar Aliyev Museum in the Milli Majlis; Gordan Jandroković made an entry in the Memorial Book.

Then, a meeting of Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Chairman of the Parliament of Croatia Gordan Jandroković took place in an expanded format.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked that that was the first visit of a Head of Parliament in the 11 years past and expressed a hope that it was going to contribute in its own way to the advancement of the relations between our countries and parliaments. The elevation of the relationship to the level of strategic partnership in the 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and the substantial role of reciprocal top-level and high-level visits in the progress of our relations were emphasised during the meeting.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed contentment with our countries’ mutual support and solidarity in international organisations, mentioning the high assessment of Croatia’s active support to our country’s initiatives within the COP29 frameworks as well as the participation of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in that important event.

The important role of Azerbaijan in ensuring the energy security of a number of European countries was talked over at the meeting. As the conversation went on, there was an exchange of opinions about the growth prospects of the inter-parliamentary links, the relations between the two countries’ parliamentary committees and other matters of shared interest.

Also, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova informed the guest of the initialling of the peace treaty with Armenia.

Saying he was satisfied with his being in Azerbaijan on a visit, Chairman of the Parliament of Croatia Gordan Jandroković shared impressions from his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev earlier today.

He said that Azerbaijan’s having restored her sovereignty and territorial integrity in 2023 was a matter of pride and that signing the peace treaty with Armenia soon would come as a weighty contribution to the development of the whole region.

The Chairman of Parliament talked about the importance of the existing relations between our countries in the economic field, including their co-operation in the energy sector, and underscored Azerbaijan’s role in maintaining the energy security of European countries.
