Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with Prime Minister of Republic of Mozambique

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique Ms Maria Benvinda Levi on 31 August in the course of her working visit to the Republic of Serbia.

Opinions were exchanged at the meeting about the current state and growth prospects of the relations between our countries. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova remarked that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to furthering the relations with the African countries. As she talked about the importance of the co-operation under the aegis of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis covered the work done by Azerbaijan in the 4-year chairmanship tenure in this organisation, the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established upon the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and about also the achievements secured during our country’s chairmanship.

The current condition of the bilateral relations in several areas was also broached during the meeting, and there was an exchange of opinions about development issues pertaining to the relationship. The Speaker recalled her meeting with Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of the Republic of Mozambique Margarida Talapa who was visiting in our country in June this year for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States. She emphasised the importance of co-operation and mutual support within international organisations.

It was remarked during the conversation that there are sound opportunities to develop co-operation the Parliaments in other areas as well; also, opinions were voiced as to the necessity of paying reciprocal visits.

Prime Minister Maria Benvinda Levi spoke contentedly of the current state of the relations between Mozambique and Azerbaijan. She voiced appreciation of Mozambiquan students’ and diplomatists’ involvement in the programmes implemented in Azerbaijan. The support which Azerbaijan extended to Mozambique during the COVID-19 pandemic period was mentioned as well.

The Prime Minister noted that the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established upon the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev is an important platform to discuss a number of substantial matters and that Mozambique, too, is engaged in this Network’s operation.

The prospects for development of the relations in the inter-parliamentary dimension, in education as well as in humanitarian and other areas were addressed as well at the meeting; an exchange of opinions was carried out regarding other matters of shared interest.
