Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova visited the Ata-Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex in Bishkek on 19 October.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova laid a wreath at the monument.

The guests were informed that the Ata-Beyit National Historical and Memorial Complex had been built and put into operation in 2000 with the aim of restoring and preserving the historical memory of the development stages of the Kyrgyz State. The memorial was named ‘Ata-Beyit’, that is, the burial place of the fathers, at the suggestion of the outstanding Kyrgyz writer Chinghiz Aitmatov. The complex consists of three parts – a memorial dome, gravestones and a memorial wall.

The delegation of Azerbaijan also visited the Chinghiz Aitmatov Memorial Home in Bishkek. As they were told there, the museum, active since 2014, had since 1986 occupied the house where the writer spent the last years of his life.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis met there with Chinghiz Aitmatov’s youngest son and President of the Chinghiz Aitmatov Foundation – Eldar Aitmatov.

Eldar Aitmatov told the guest of his efforts to preserve in the minute detail the whole atmosphere and arrangement of the house as they were when the writer was alive. The Memorial Home stores the writer’s personal belongings as well as his manuscripts and numerous decorations. The first floor is occupied by his studio, bedroom and library.

Also there is the seat of the Chinghiz Aitmatov International Foundation, which is engaged in cultural enlightenment activities. The writer himself established the Foundation in 2000; his children manage it now.
