Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the Ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze on 5 February.

Greeting the guest, Mrs Gafarova then spoke of the great importance that Azerbaijan attaches to furthering the relations with the friendly and brotherly Georgia, adding that the mutual visits of the two heads of state and their negotiations had let our relationship graduate to strategic partnership. Today, Azerbaijan and Georgia co-operate fruitfully in a vast variety of areas while the bipartite documents signed to date have formed a solid legal foundation for such co-operation.

It was then underlined that the high standard set by the dialogue between the countries was a guarantee of the equally high economic indicators. Being friends and neighbours, Azerbaijan and Georgia are making efficient efforts to carry out global-scale projects and establish prosperity in the region.

Mrs Gafarova proceeded to say that the deepening of the interparliamentary relations also advocated the common goals. The exchanged visits of the Georgian and Azerbaijani MPs and their periodical meetings at the reputable international parliamentary organisations are very useful in that they let the two sides discuss the subjects that concern them equally. Azerbaijan appreciates highly the stance taken by Georgia during the 44-day Patriotic War and believes that the relationship will deepen further eventually, according to Mrs Gafarova.

Thanking for the cordial reception, Mr Pataradze referred to the ancient history of the links between the two nations, adding that the high-level political relations, in turn, had made the nations yet closer to each other. Besides, the economic, cultural and humanitarian co-operation between Georgia and Azerbaijan is advancing from day to day.

It is the intention of Georgia to intensify the interparliamentary bonds, too, Ambassador Pataradze mentioned prior to telling Mrs Gafarova of the work done by the Georgian Parliament and highlighting the significance of the two sides’ MPs’ meetings on various platforms as well as their two-way visits.

Georgia has always supported the territorial wholeness of Azerbaijan and has never spared the effort to promote peace and stability in the region.

Other matters of mutual interest were touched upon during the conversation, too.
