Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 1 July with Chairman of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria Ibrahim Boughali who is in Azerbaijan for the Baku Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Greeting the guests, Sahiba Gafarova turned to the topicality of the discussions held at the Conference dedicated to boosting national parliaments’ input in propping peace and sustainable development in the world. She stressed the consequence of the event of the NAM’s Parliamentary Network, which had itself been incepted in Madrid upon the instance of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. The through-line of the conference is very relevant at the present time when parliamentary diplomacy is gaining in significance the world over with each passing day, according to Mrs Gafarova.

The address of President Ilham Aliyev at the Baku Conference and his statements about the NAM’s position in global developments bear special weight, Mrs Gafarova added.

Such events as this are absolutely necessary for the growth of co-operation amongst the parliaments of the NAM countries, in the opinion of the Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament who went on to lay down her ideas regarding the advancement prospects of the interaction between the Milli Majlis and the legislative body of Algeria.

Chairman of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria Ibrahim Boughali said his thanks for the sincere words, the invitation to the NAM PN Baku Conference and the high standards to which it had been conducted. He also praised the speech of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan at the Conference and drew attention to the gravity of the matters President Aliyev had covered. Besides, Mr Boughali talked about the importance of the Conference as a site upon which the parliamentarians representing our nations had gathered to discuss pressing and relevant issues.

Other matters of interest to both sides were discussed during the meeting, too.
