At a Meeting with Lithuanian Parliamentarians
The inter-parliamentary friendship groups of the Milli Majlis and Lithuania’s Seimas took place on 14 July.
The leader of the Azerbaijan-Lithuania group Nasib Mahamaliyev welcomed the Lithuanian parliament led by the Lithuania-Azerbaijan group’s head Kazys Starkevičius and then began to talk about the 44 days’ Patriotic War.
That war ended in the defeat of the occupier Armenia and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Armenia’s having blinked at the conflict settlement resolutions of the important international organisations had taken the matters up to Garabagh War II after which new realia and co-operation opportunities emerged in the South Caucasus, according to Mr Mahamaliyev. The trilateral statement signed eventually is a solid guarantee of peace and co-operation, and it is important in this context to act upon the secured arrangements. MP Mahamaliyev also told the Lithuanian colleagues about the large-scale restoration afoot in the liberated territories and about the Azerbaijani initiatives to reopen regional communications.
The chairman of the Seimas’ economic committee and leader of the Lithuania-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary connexions group Kazys Starkevičius reiterated Lithuania’s unfailing support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. He mentioned the big importance that his country attaches to the bilateral links and the usefulness of reciprocal visits and meetings for the growth of those links.
The members of the Azerbaijan-Lithuania group Parvin Karimzade, Kamran Bayramov, Nizami Safarov and Kamila Aliyeva and their colleagues from the Lithuania-Azerbaijan group Valentinas Bukauskas and Edmundas Pupinis shared their thoughts and suggestions regarding promotion of the bilateral interaction in various fields.
Next, the guests were told of Azerbaijan’s commitment to keeping peace and stability in the region and her constructive approach to such matters – one that always falls back upon the international law. The blackening campaigns launched by Armenia against Azerbaijan upon international platforms, the significance of the Azerbaijani-Lithuanian inter-parliamentary bonds and of their development, and the need to push the economic and humanitarian ties further were spoken of, too.
A member of the Milli Majlis Azer Karimli, the Azerbaijani ambassador in Vilnius Tamerlan Garayev and the Lithuanian envoy in Baku Edigijus Navikas also took part in the meeting.
