As we have reported, a new draft law on political parties is in the pipeline at the parliament to the orders of Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. As many as 39 state-registered political parties have submitted their relevant suggestions to the Milli Majlis already. The drafting of the new Bill goes on with the study of the relevant experience of more than 20 countries and the Venice Commission’s 2010 and 2020 recommendations concerning regulation of political parties’ activities.

We have also reported that there will be a public hearing at the Milli Majlis to ensure a broad discussion of the draft law.

The first public hearing is due on 28 September this year; what ideas and suggestions will be put forth at it will be taken into consideration duly.
