Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, currently on a working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, has had a meeting with the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Mrs Gafarova thanked Mr Mirziyoyev for the cordial reception and passed on to the Uzbek leader the greetings and best wishes of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The high present-day level of the bilateral relations and the special roles of the two presidents in their progress were mentioned in the course of the conversation. Besides, the tangible outcomes of the historical visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Uzbekistan in June this year were touched on: that visit marked a new phase in our relationship. Reciprocal high-status visits and close contacts give birth to yet broader opportunities to make the linkage between the two friendly and fraternal states increasingly stronger, it was said during the conversation.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said his thanks for the greetings from Ilham Aliyev and, in his turn, asked to pass his own regards and best wishes to him.

Then, the Uzbek leader underscored the significance of the inter-parliamentary co-operation for the progress of the two-way relations; he also stressed the need to broaden the relevant connexions further.

Other matters of joint interest were talked over at the meeting as well.

Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova was interviewed by the Uzbek TV after the meeting. She shared her thoughts about the Azerbaijani delegation’s attendance of the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliaments as well as the present state and the prospects of the Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations.
