Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Chair of Bahraini Council of Representatives
Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, now in the Republic of Uzbekistan on a working visit, had a meeting with Chair of the Council of Representatives of Bahrain Fawzia bint Abdullah Zeynal on 9 September.
The Chair of the Milli Majlis brought up the special importance given by Azerbaijan to her links with Bahrain, mentioned the existing positive bilateral co-operation in many areas and underlined the necessity of strengthening the inter-state regulatory and contractual framework as one of significant propulsion to our relations’ progress.
The two countries have efficient co-operation going under the roofs of international organisations in general and the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation in particular. The unfailing support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the territorial integrity of our country and the defence of her fair stance upon all the international platforms heralds Bahrain’s friendly attitude to us, according to Sahiba Gafarova.
The Azerbaijani-Bahraini inter-parliamentary relations constitute a considerable component of our bilateral and multilateral connexions; the parliaments occupy a special place within the process of strengthening the inter-state links, Mrs Gafarova continued. Our contacts and reciprocal visits matter in that they bring the two nations yet closer together. Having said that, Mrs Gafarova told Mrs Zeynal about the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, an entity founded at the suggestion of the Azerbaijani side.
Sahiba Gafarova praised the Bahraini delegations’ attendance at both the NAM Parliamentary Network’s inception meeting in Madrid in November last year and at Network’s first conference held in Baku on 30 June-1 July this year.
Madam Chair said that the Baku Declaration that had capped the conference in the Azerbaijani capital participated by the delegations of 40 countries and 8 international parliamentary bodies reflected the common goals and views. Besides, it is important for the institutional making of the Network that its Status on Working Modalities as well as the logo and official flag were adopted, and Chair and Deputy Chairs were elected at the same conference, according to Sahiba Gafarova.
She went further to witness her confidence in the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement becoming a global-scale parliamentary body eventually and to voice the preparedness for collaboration with Bahrain’s Council of Representatives towards that goal.
Chair of the Council of Representatives of Bahrain Fawzia Zeynal thanked for the warm welcome, said that the progress of our two-way relations served the interests of both nations sharing the religious and cultural norms, mentioned the available extensive opportunities to co-operate economically, in trade and in other areas, and mentioned Bahrain’s interest in furthering the diverse links with Azerbaijan.
As regards the inter-parliamentary connexions, Fawzia Zeynal stressed the interest in their promotion, too, adding that the Council of Representatives stood by to extend every kind of assistance to the process within the legislative dimensions.
There was then an exchange of opinions about the progress of the connexions between the legislatures of Bahrain and Azerbaijan and about making efforts to make parliamentary diplomacy yet more active.
