Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Chair of Senate of Zimbabwe

As part of her working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with Chair of the Senate of Zimbabwe Mabel Chinomona. Mrs Gafarova made Mrs Chinomona aware of our country’s interest in furthering co-operation with the African states in particular and with Zimbabwe in particular. She added that interaction amongst our legislatures could bear well on the growth of the bilateral connexions.

Then, Madam Speaker recalled the initiative proposed by Azerbaijan as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement to foster the organisation’s parliamentary dimension and spoke highly of the Zimbabwean delegation’s participation of the NAM Parliamentary Network’s first session in Madrid in November last year. Besides, Madam Speaker continued, the Baku Conference of the NAM PN was held on 30 June-1 July this year with the attendance of parliamentarians from 40 countries and delegates of 8 international parliamentary organisations. The Baku Declaration heralding our common positions and views had been adopted at the conference, Mrs Gafarova remembered.

According to Chair of the Senate of Zimbabwe Mabel Chinomona, her country finds her co-operation with the NAM PN to be of importance. Mrs Chinomona also underlined the significance of the links between legislatures and stressed the weight of parliamentary diplomacy brought to bear in the modern system of international relations.

There was an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest at the conversation as well.
