Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova who is in the Republic of Tajikistan on an official visit currently has had a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Supreme Assembly of the country Rustam Emomali.

First, Mrs Gafarova and Mr Emomali had a tête-à-tête to discuss promotion of the growth of the inter-state relations and strengthening of the inter-parliamentary co-operation.

At the larger-format meeting that followed, Mr Emomali greeted Mrs Gafarova cordially and told her that his country found important and appreciated the relations with the friendly Azerbaijan. According to Mr Emomali, the inter-state relations are progressing bilaterally as well as multilaterally, including under the roofs of international organisations. Azerbaijan occupies a significant place in the Tajik foreign politics and our relationship is rooted in the rich history, stressed the Chairman of the Majlisi Milli.

Mr Emomali went further to note that that was Mrs Gafarova’s first visit to Tajikistan as Chair of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and that, certainly, her coming would contribute across the board to a continued development of the bilateral relations. Besides, as a continuation of the co-operation amongst the two legislatures, this visit affords a splendid opportunity to discuss the matters serving both sides’ common interests. Mr Emomali lauded the successful Azerbaijani chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, placing an emphasis on the establishment of the NAM Parliamentary Network upon the instance of our country. The Parliament of Tajikistan is supportive of the Network, he added.

Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude for the Tajik side’s hospitality before pointing out the friendly and partnerly links between our states. Incidentally, she said, the Azerbaijani-Tajik diplomatic relations turned thirty years in 2022; the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations of our countries and their nations have been advancing all those years past, according to Mrs Gafarova who highlit the remarkable role in that progress of the reciprocal visits of the leaders of the two states.

The parliaments, too, play a substantial role in the evolution of the two-way relations; the fruitful inter-parliamentary interaction serves the interests of our nations. A co-operation agreement was signed between the Milli Majlis and the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli during Rustam Emomali’s visit to Azerbaijan in March this year. That pact laid a foundation for the continued expansion of the bilateral co-operation. Our legislatures also co-operate productively under the aegis of a number of international parliamentary organisations, according to Sahiba Gafarova.

The Milli Majlis considers the co-operation with those entities to be of importance; Azerbaijan, besides, is contributing weightily to the workings of the NAM PN the constituent session of which took part in Madrid in November last year at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan. It was followed up by the first conference – the Baku Conference – of the Network on 30 June-1 July this year. The conference went with the attendance of MPs from 40 countries and delegates of 8 international parliamentary institutions. The Baku Declaration reflecting our common vision and stance was adopted at the conference; that document matters in terms of the institutional settling-in and progress of the Network, Mrs Gafarova continued.

The leader of the Milli Majlis also updated the head of the Majlisi Milli of the Tajik Parliament of the new state of affairs in our region following Azerbaijan’s having restoring her territorial integrity and of the large-scale restoration and building work under way at full steam in our de-occupied towns and provinces.

Also, the interlocutors exchanged opinions about a number of other matters of shared interest.

The head of the Azerbaijan-Tajikistan inter-parliamentary connexions working group Aydin Mirzazade, the group members Anatoliy Rafailov and Azer Badamov, Azerbaijan’s ambassador in Dushanbe Alimirzamin Asgarov and other officials were taking part in the meeting as well.
