The chair of the Milli Majlis Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs Committee Hijran Huseynova had a meeting with the members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sumayya Rafii and Zohra Sader Ladjeverdi on 23 June.

Hijran Huseynova said she was glad of their meeting; she made a reference to the growing ties between our states and mentioned the efficient co-operation in place between our legislatures and concerned state departments.

Further, Mrs Huseynova stressed that Azerbaijan was a secular and democratic state and that Azerbaijani women had gained the right to elect and be elected way back in 1918. Today, our women are actively engaged in the socio-political life of the country; besides, the parliamentary committee she was heading represented women, too, Mrs Huseynova continued. She did not omit to mention the laws the Milli Majlis had passed on gender equality and family and children’s issues.

The lands of our country had remained occupied for long until the Azerbaijani Army led by Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev had recovered them in the 44 days’ Patriotic War of 2020. Thus, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan had been restored, the committee chair was saying. Right now, the large-scale restoration work is going on at full steam in the freed territories; arrangements are being made to ensure that the displaced persons can return home soon. The shahids’ families and the gazies are embraced with state care; the Heydar Aliyev Foundation is undertaking relevant projects, according to Mrs Huseynova.

The members of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Council Sumayya Rafii and Zohra Sader Ladjeverdi thanked for the sincere reception before telling the Azerbaijani side about the structure of the Iranian parliament, women’s representation in it and the ICC committees, including those for family, women and children, for culture and for natural environment. The Iranian parliamentarians also mentioned the relevant projects and laws in Iran and the efforts made to further public enlightenment.

Expanding the inter-parliamentary connexions, exchanging legislative experience and information, and other subjects were talked over in the course of the meeting as well.

The members of the aforementioned Milli Majlis committee Sevil Mikayilova and Ramin Mammadov, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Indira Hajiyeva, a councillor from the Iranian embassy in Baku Sayed Ali Mousavi and other officials were also present at the meeting.
