At the meeting of the Sciences and Education Committee
The Sciences and Education Committee of the Milli Majlis held a scheduled online meeting on 29 October.
Committee Chairman Bakhtiyar Aliyev voiced his ideas about the frontline situation in the Highland Garabakh region of Azerbaijan, adding that Azerbaijan’s President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev communicated the truth about latest developments and the stances of our country to the international community with precision and clarity in his foreign media interviews. The valiant Azerbaijani Army is waging the Patriotic War under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief in order to restore the territorial integrity of our country. Our lands are being freed from the grip of the Armenian-Fascist occupation. The Azerbaijani Soldier is fighting for his own land and this is a righteous fight!
Then, the Committee Chairman mentioned the Armenian armed forces’ ‘Smerch’ ballistic missile attack on a dense public gathering location in the town of Barda that killed 21 and wounded many others on 28 October. That is a war crime. Unlike the armed forces of Armenia, the Azerbaijani Army always only opens fire on legitimate military targets.
Further, the Committee Chairman said that the agenda of the meeting included draft amendments to the Law ‘On Education’ and the Law ‘On Vocational Education’ up for the third reading.
Bakhtiyar Aliyev went on to say that it had been proposed to add the ‘overseas tertiary education qualification’ concept to certain articles of the Law ‘On Education’ of the Azerbaijan Republic and, at the same time, to replace the wording ‘the recognition of overseas tertiary education specialty fields and the determination of their equivalencies (nostrification)’ with the wording ‘the recognition of overseas tertiary education qualifications’. It was then pointed out that the recognition of sub-bachelor diplomas (undergraduate degrees) awarded by authorised overseas bodies would enable the citizens of our country as well as overseas nationals and apatrides holding such diplomas to continue their education at the next academic levels in our country.
As regards the Bill ‘On Vocational Education’, it had been drawn up in compliance with the Bill of Amendments to the Law ‘On Education’ with the purpose of terminology unification.
The attending Deputy Chairman of the Committee Musa Gasimli and MPs Etibar Aliyev, Jeyhun Mammadov, Shahin Seyidzade, Mushfig Mammadli, Aghiya Nakhchivanli, Eldar Guliyev, Rafael Huseynov, Parvin Karimzade and Tamam Jafarova spoke of the importance of the documents at hand.
It was recommended that the Bills be put before a plenary session of the Milli Majlis.
