The Milli Majlis Youth and Sports Committee held its first meeting in the 2022 autumn parliamentary session on 20 September. The meeting was conducted remotely.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis/committee head Adil Aliyev asked that the Almighty would rest the souls of the military servicemen killed whilst fending off the recent big provocation of the Armenian troops aimed at the Kalbajar, Lachin, Dashkasan and Zanghilan provinces of our country. Adil Aliyev also sent his heartfelt condolences to the shahids’ families and friends and wished those wounded in combat a speedy recovery.

Mr Aliyev told the committee members that the agenda included the performance report covering the 2022 spring and extraordinary sessions as well as the work plan for the autumn session.

The committee chairman began with the said report, noting that the committee had been active and had worked fruitfully during the past sessions; there had been 7 committee meetings and 9 matters had been covered at them. Those were amendments to the laws ‘On Shusha – the Cultural Capital of Azerbaijan’, ‘On Physical Education and Sports’, ‘On Lotteries’ and ‘On the General Education’ as well as several other Bills – the Milli Majlis had passed them all following deliberations. In addition, the Youth and Sports Committee had combined with the Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs Committee to arrange and conduct a hearing in Shusha.

As regards the period’s inbound correspondence, the committee had reviewed 412 applications and letters and, on top of that, had taken action with respect to 930 oral appeals and enquiries made in social media.

Both the committee chairman and the committee members had been taking part in meetings with the Patriotic War gazies and shahid families as well as the numerous wakes of those killed in action during the War.

Also, Mr Aliyev continued, the Youth and Sports Committee had arranged 31 receptions for 326 citizens in total. There had also been meetings with the athletes representing our colours at international tournaments and with young people alike. The committee leader and members had attended a string of local and international events, taken part in the meetings of the inter-parliamentary friendship groups on which they sit, met with representatives of international organisations, conducted discussions and took a proactive approach to the public concerns of the period.

Done with the performance report, the committee switched their attention to the autumn-session work plan. It was said that they were going to consider bills arriving at the Milli Majlis and several amendments. The Committee also intends to run discussions about the Bills ‘On Physical Education and Sports’, ‘On the Youth Policy’, ‘On Voluntary Activities’ and ‘On Patriotic Education’. Those articles of the Tertiary Education Law that concern the youth will be looked at, too.

Further, the committee members plan to take part in youth enlightenment events, talk to shahid families and war gazies, and contribute to the endeavours to tell the world about the Armenian aggression and let the world know the truth about us – all in line with the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (dated 5 January 2022) that declared the 2022 the Year of Shusha.

The committee member Etibar Aliyev found it necessary to let the fellow MPs hear his proposals regarding raising the healthy, well-educated and patriotic youth in our country.

In the end, the committee found the performance report acceptable and approved the autumn-session work plan.

The deputy committee chairman Shahin Ismayilov and the members Mahir Abbaszade, Ulvi Guliyev, Elnur Allahverdiyev, Javid Osmanov, Konul Nurullayeva, Sevinj Huseynova, Ramin Hasan, Vugar Isgandarov and Jabi Guliyev were also linked up to the online meeting.
