Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with Chairman of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia Lukas Sinimbo Muha as part of her current working trip to Jakarta on 5 October.

As the conversation went on, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that the countries had a tremendous potential to develop the Azerbaijani-Namibian relations despite the latters’ rather short history.

The leader of the Milli Majlis expressed satisfaction with the two-way co-operation upon various international platforms including the Non-Aligned Movement. She recalled that the Namibian delegation led by President Hage Gottfried Geingob had taken part in the 18th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement’s heads of state and heads of government in Baku on 23-26 October 2019. Mrs Gafarova also mentioned Namibia’s backing to the initiative of Azerbaijan as the chair of the NAM to establish the Movement’s Parliamentary Network and the Namibian parliamentary delegation’s attendance of the Network’s inception meeting in Madrid in November 2021. Besides, Namibia had also been represented at the Baku Conference of the NAM PN, Mrs Gafarova said.

As the incumbent chair of the NAM PN, Sahiba Gafarova updated Lukas Sinimbo Muha on the outcomes of that conference as well as the Organisation’s outstanding agenda and planned events.

Chairman of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia Lukas Sinimbo Muha greeted the Chair of the Milli Majlis sincerely before underscoring his country’s interest in furthering the relations with Azerbaijan and accentuating the roles of both legislatures in this context.

Mr Muha also broached the bilateral co-operation under the roofs of international organisations, stressing the exceptional importance to Namibia of the interaction upon such international platforms as the UN, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the NAM Parliamentary Network. Incidentally, Namibia attaches great importance to collaborating with the Non-Aligned Movement and highly appreciates the Movement’s active role in the system of international relations.

Other subjects of shared interest were the focus of an exchange of opinions that followed as the meeting drew on.
