Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, currently in Jakarta, Indonesia for the P20 Summit, has had a conversation with Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Saqr Ghobash.

Azerbaijan considers it very important to maintain friendship and collaboration with the UAE, the diplomatic relations with which are turning thirty years in 2022, Sahiba Gafarova was saying. The exchanged high-status visits, especially so those of the two states’ leaders make an exceptional input in the overall advancement of the bilateral relations, in her opinion.

Mrs Gafarova touched on the significance of the legislatures in broadening the co-operation and mentioned their favourable contributions to the process; she also stressed the active presence of friendship groups in both parliaments, adding that those groups were bridging our assemblies. The two countries are represented and co-operate successfully in international parliamentary organisations including the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the suggestion of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. Having commented on that interaction, Sahiba Gafarova spoke with praise of the UAE representative’s presence at the NAM PN conference in Baku this year. Sahiba Gafarova proceeded to inform Saqr Ghobash of the outcomes of that conference.

In turn, Chairman of the Federal National Council of the UAE Saqr Ghobash witnessed his pleasure with the meeting, mentioned the high standards the bilateral inter-state relations set and described our parliaments’ interaction as another factor giving the Azerbaijani-UAE relations their dynamism. Besides, Mr Ghobash talked about the need to widen the co-operation and brought up our interaction under the aegis of international parliamentary institutions.

The UAE are interested in broadening the linkage with the NAM Parliamentary Network, too, whilst standing ready to offer it any kind of assistance it might require, according to Mr Ghobash who added that the FNC had been represented at the first conference of the Network in Baku and that the FNC delegates had returned being immensely impressed by Baku.
