There was an online conference ‘On the Environmental Situation in the Lands De-Occupied during the Patriotic War; Perspective Projects and the Innovative Garabagh’, held on the initiative of the Milli Majlis Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology on 10 February.

Committee Chairman Sadig Gurbanov who started the online event welcomed its participants speaking on behalf of Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and told them that the conference was dedicated to a subject of utmost important currently.

Our heroic Army led by President and Commander-in-Chief of Azerbaijan Mr Ilham Aliyev drove the occupiers off the lands that had remained captured for almost 30 years. Now that the national territory of the country is whole again in the wake of the 44-day Patriotic War, Mr Gurbanov went on, there lies ahead of us all one of the most essential tasks to fulfil, namely, that of restoring and rebuilding the recovered provinces.

Maintaining the ecologic balance is one of the topmost challenges of the 21st century. The associated scope consists of limiting intensive development of natural resources and of oil, natural gas and coal extraction with the preference being given to the use of renewable energy sources as well as to the ‘green’ and ‘blue’ economies. The scope also includes rational consumption of water resources, reduction of the CO2 volumes in the atmosphere of the planet, recycling and other matters, Mr Gurbanov said.

The other speakers were Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev, the Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics Adalat Muradov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilhama Gadimova, Executive Director of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the Garabagh Revival Fund Rahman Hajiyev and Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Economic Policy, Industries and Enterprising Tahir Mirkishili. All the speakers expressed their views on the tasks ahead.

There was an extensive exchange of opinions about the return to the freed lands and the prospects for the state and private sectors’ co-operation there, environmental protection and energy supplies, involving business enterprises in the restoration activities, promotion of agriculture development in the region and other issues.

Summing up, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology Sadig Gurbanov remarked that the conference had been efficient and that he was certain that the ideas and suggestions voiced during it were going to prove useful.
