A Meeting with WHO Representatives
The Milli Majlis Health Committee had a meeting on 13 October with members of the World Health Organisation’s malaria elimination certification assessment mission in Azerbaijan.
The head of the parliamentary committee Ahliman Amiraslanov greeted the visitors and told them of the results Azerbaijan had achieved in fighting malaria, of the relevant state programmes adopted and geared into action, the health care arrangements made and the medicine progress opportunities available thanks to the guidance provided by President Ilham Aliyev and thanks also to the personal attention to the matter of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.
Soltan Mammadov and Sadagat Valiyeva of the parliamentary committee, in turn, spoke of Azerbaijan's productive cooperation with the WHO and thanked the visitors for it. As they then talked about the on-going reforms in the country's health system and the strong state support for the whole field, the MPs remarked that the Azerbaijani parliament was also sensitive to topical health issues.
The leader of the malaria elimination department of the Global Malaria Programme at the WHO HQ Elkhan Gasimov, the appraisal mission’s head Chris Carter and the mission member Reza Mejidzade made the Azerbaijani side aware of the progress of the certification by the WHO concerned with discontinuation of malaria cases in Azerbaijan and about the work done so far. They also praised our country’s strict adherence to WHO recommendations and requirements, and shared opinions about a constant epidemiological and entomological control to curb malaria.
