Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Samad Seyidov had a meeting with the US Department State official Cameron Millard on 18 November.

After his greetings to the visitors, Mr Seyidov raised the subject of the relations between Azerbaijan and the USA, stressing then also that our country was an advocate of peace and security in the region. Besides, he informed the US officials of the current state of affairs in the region and our state’s peace-making initiatives, and pointed out that Azerbaijan was keen on normalising relations with the regional states and keeping up peaceful contacts and good neighbourhood with them.

The efforts are focused on signing a peace treaty with Armenia currently. The ordinary Armenian people want a peace, too, but certain forces sadly prevent this much-desired goal from being reached.

Samad Seyidov touched on the recent resolution of France’s Senate levelled at Azerbaijan and described it as one signifying an unfair approach. The large-scale oil and gas projects implemented by our country and Azerbaijan’s being a strategic partner to the European Union were mentioned next.

The USA respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, according to Cameron Millard of the US Department of State who stressed the importance of deepening the bilateral relations further and said that Azerbaijan’s victory in the Patriotic War had given rise to a new kind of reality in the region and that Azerbaijan was coming up with further initiatives now.

Other matters attracting both sides’ attention were discussed, too, as the conversation went on.

Head of the Political Affairs Department of the US Embassy in Baku Mikhail Seroka and the Embassy’s political advisor Brett Dvorak took part in the meeting as well.
