Meeting with a Korean Delegation
Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and head of the parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev received a delegation led by Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Lee Hun-seung on 14 December.
Adil Aliyev talked about the relations built amongst our countries, adding that those relations were on the rise, and the achievements made in education and student exchange. The Azerbaijani-Korean relations’ growth can be continued: there are good opportunities for that, according to Mr Aliyev.
Azerbaijan enforced by herself the four resolutions of the UN Security Council, stalled for many years, as she prized her hands out of Armenian occupation in 2020. The defeated Armenia signed a deed of capitulation on 19 November and assumed certain obligations by doing so. But Armenia is not honouring those despite the fact that the war ended two years ago; on the contrary, Armenia is resorting to incessant provocations and attempts to arm up every now and then. Furthermore, Armenia is abusing the Lachin Humanitarian Corridor to smuggle in ammunition including anti-personnel mines and, on the other hand, is abusing as much the temporary deployment locations of the Russian peace-makers in the territory of Azerbaijan to export Azerbaijani mineral resources and other natural wealth illegally. Meanwhile, the Russian peace-makers who are supposed to carry responsibility for security matters are blinking at all this and making no efforts to discourage the provocations targeting environmental monitoring. Non-governmental organisations and environmentalists are in a picket on the Shusha-Lachin motorway right now to protest against the predatory plunder of our natural wealth and environmental terror in the temporary stations of the Russian peace-keeping troops.
The Vice Speaker said he hoped the international community would be brought to bear on Armenia in this regard.
Chairman of the Milli Majlis Defence, Security and Counter-Corruption Committee Ziyafet Asgarov who was at the meeting, too, mentioned Azerbaijan being interested in deepening the relations with Korea further in every area covered. He stressed the need to continue promoting the growth of our inter-parliamentary connexions as well, to which end the two sides should put on more reciprocal visits. Mr Asgarov said he was certain that the current visit of the Korean delegation and the discussions due in its course were bound to generate a new momentum behind the progress of our relations in general and those of our legislatures in particular.
Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the Republic of Korea Lee Hun-seung thanked for the warm welcome given to him and his delegation before saying that his country was keen on furthering the ties with Azerbaijan, especially as regards implementing smart-town and green energy projects. Incidentally, Korea is canvassing Busan as a host of the Expo-2030 World Exhibition, according to Lee Hun-seung.
Member of the Korean National Assembly Lee Joon Hwan, head of the international co-operation department of the Defence provision Programme’s Administration Sangdeok Choi and Yae Seung Yang of UI Helicopters then put across their own thoughts about the prospects and growth vectors of the relations between Azerbaijan and Korea.
Other official persons including Ambassador of Korea to Azerbaijan Lee Eun Yong took part in the meeting as well.
