The inter-parliamentary connexions Working Groups as well as the International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan have sent letters to colleagues in other countries’ parliaments concerning the on-going protest action by Azerbaijani civil and environmental activists.

It is stressed in those letters that our civil society members and environmentalists started that protest action on the Shusha-Lachin motorway in response to Armenia’s exploitation of natural resources in the Azerbaijani provinces where the Russian peace-making force is deployed temporarily. They are also protesting against the transportation of those resources to Armenia by the above-mentioned Lachin Road and the obstruction of attempted visits of officials of the specialist state authorities of Azerbaijan to the locations of such mineral deposits.

The completely unfounded nature of the Armenian side’s pretences is emphasised in the correspondence. It is being pointed out that the obstacles are put on the Lachin Road but by the Russian peacemakers rather than the Azerbaijani protesters. It is not the objective of the protestation to block the road; rather, it aims to discourage the illegal exportation of the pillaged natural resources whereas motion of civil transport vehicles is not obstructed in any manner whatsoever.

Besides, the letters highlight Armenia’s use of the Lachin Road for military purposes and for haulage of mines and plundered mineral resources in flagrant violation of the Trilateral Declaration of 10 November 2020 as well as the obligations that Armenia had assumed at the meetings in Prague and Sochi to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. The illegal action course of Armenia is there for all that. The letters underscore the pressing need in unbiased coverage of Armenia’s illicit acts.
