Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Contacts Samad Seyidov met with the Afghani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Amanullah Jaihoon on 17 February.

Mr Seyidov greeted the visitor before telling him of the well-established and firm bonds of friendship between our countries. Afghanistan supported without fail the just standpoint of Azerbaijan in the face of the Armenian occupation. That support remained and was made abundantly articulate also from the moment the 44-day Patriotic War broke out. Both chambers of the Afghani Parliament made statements in defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Mr Seyidov recalled.

Mr Jaihoon said he was glad to be at the Azerbaijani Parliament. He welcomed the opening of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Afghanistan as he is confident that it would help take the bilateral co-operation further.

Mr Jaihoon proceeded to congratulate Azerbaijan on the triumph gained under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijan restored the rule of the international law and historical justice to its region by having enforced the four resolutions of the UN Security Council concerned with the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Highland Garabagh. The Afghani Ambassador mentioned having seen the lamentable consequences of the occupation in the now-freed lands with his own eyes only recently.

Azerbaijan has been a participant of the peace-making mission in Afghanistan since 2000, which Afghanistan appreciates very much, never taking its relations with Azerbaijan for granted. The two parliaments could contribute profoundly to the continued bilateral co-operation on various international platforms, too.

Samad Seyidov said to this that Azerbaijan was interested in a broader field for interaction with Afghanistan in numerous areas including between the two legislatures, and was prepared to make every effort to achieve this goal.

Samad Seyidov and Amanullah Jaihoon also shared views on furthering co-operation in different venues and on other matters of mutual interest.
