Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and chairman of the parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev met with students from the SABAH Group of the Department of Law of the Baku State University on 28 December.

Mr Aliyev talked about the youth and education policy, founded by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and said that, just as in all the activity fields, the Head of State was implementing the youth and education policy extremely successfully today.

Educating the Azerbaijani youth to be knowledgeable, literate and in contact with the national moral values is a top task. Education, social protection and other interests of the young people are within the sights of the president of the republic invariably, and the Azerbaijan-2030 National Socio-Economic Development Priorities signed off by him rest on five cornerstone principles with one consisting in ensuring quality education of the youth as competitive human capital. Vice Speaker Aliyev said that more than 600 students were sent to prestigious universities round the world every year whilst our universities are implementing double-diploma programmes together with influential counterparts in other countries. Our youth, in turn, led by the victorious Commander-in-Chief, accomplished their historic mission in the Patriotic War and demonstrated their courage both on frontlines and on the home front.

Then, Adil Aliyev detailed the students about the work and workings of our supreme legislative body, which, he pointed out, is doing its duty with dignity under the leadership of Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Mr Aliyev described the Non-Aligned Movement’s Parliamentary Assembly, established at the suggestion of President Ilham Aliyev, as Azerbaijan’s biggest contribution to international interaction as the Vice Speaker talked about the involvement of the 6th-convention Milli Majlis with international organisations over the outbound period.

Our grand victory in the Patriotic War dictates that the victorious state’s youth should be more responsible, patriotic and educated. That victory awakens the green-eyed monster in various foreign forces; those forces are resorting to provocative steps but, Mr Aliyev emphasised, our youth ought to be spearheading the discouragement of such encroachments.

Then, the students asked their questions and listened to the answers; topics of interest to them were discussed. With the meeting over, they went down to the statute of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the foyer of the Houses of the Milli Majlis, called at the Victory Corner, in the foyer as well, and were shown round the chamber where the parliamentary plena take place.
