There was a trilateral meeting of the chairs of the legislatures of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran on the sidelines of the 13^th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Antalya in Turkey.

The participants of the trilateral underscored the significance of the APA plenum’s discourse and the importance of the session itself in that it allowed for a wider use of the parliamentary diplomacy resources. Besides, the three speakers highlit the role of their own meeting in the context of relations amongst the parliaments of our states.   

Ideas were voiced as to the current state of regional affairs; the speakers stressed the pressing need of regional energy co-operation and broadening of communications as well as they underlined the substantial contribution that energy and transport projects make to the overall regional development. An opinion, shared by all the three legislature heads, was voiced to the effect that all steps liable to harm, at the present stage, regional stability and to cause tensions should be avoided at all times. On the other hand, it is imperative to take such steps as would promote broader co-operation, the three parliamentary speakers agreed.

It was said at the meeting that new opportunities had arisen in the region with Azerbaijan’s having reclaimed her lands from the three decades of Armenian occupation. The speakers again repeated that it was paramount to ink that peace treaty so that constant peace and stability would be secured across the region.

The leaders of the three legislative assemblies also discussed at length a number of other matters of interest and concern to all the three parties.
