Members of the Milli Majlis Working Group for Inter-Parliamentary Connexions with Saudi Arabia and the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Friendship Group of the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met on 11 January.
Head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary group Fatma Yildirim followed her greetings to the guests by the words about reciprocal visits and meetings solidifying the co-operation and the friendly and brotherly bonds between the two countries and their nations – the bonds resting on the shared spiritual values.
Mrs Yildirim proceeded to touch on the role of inter-parliamentary co-operation in the progress of the bilateral ties; she mentioned the close contacts between the friendship groups. She also talked about the importance of fostering co-operation amongst the two sides’ parliamentary committees and praised on-going interaction amongst our parliamentarians in international organisations.
Azerbaijan freed her lands from occupation in the 44 days’ Patriotic War; those provinces are being restored and brought back to life now, Fatma Yildirim said.
The head of the delegation and the friendship group for connexions with Azerbaijan in the Saudi Consultative Assembly Fayez bin Abdullah Al-Shehri spoke in excellent terms about the friendship between our peoples and pinpointed the exchange of visits by parliamentary delegations.
The Saudi group’s leader and members expressed satisfaction at their visit to our country, shared their impressions of the progress they had witnessed here, and stressed Saudi Arabia's interest in expanding multifaceted co-operation with Azerbaijan. The guests also spoke about the importance of promoting collaboration in tourism, energy, oil and gas, renewable energy and investments. The need to broaden our educational and academic interaction was emphasised as well. The members of the Consultative Assembly did not omit to underscore Saudi women’s being active in the social and political life of their country, either.
As regards the inter-parliamentary connexions, the Saudi Arabian delegation members underlined the need for further expansion of interaction between friendship groups. Further, they spoke of the essential importance of establishing links amongst the parliamentary committees of the two sides – essential, that is, for the exchange of legislative experience and relevant information.
