Members of the Azerbaijan-Indonesia Inter-Parliamentary Connexions Working Group and of the Indonesia-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group met at the Milli Majlis on 31 January.

Chairman of the Milli Majlis Sciences and Education Committee and head of the Azerbaijan-Indonesia Group Bakhtiyar Aliyev greeted the guests and told them he was glad to welcome them at the parliament of Azerbaijan.

Our country is an advocate of economic co-operation, sustainable peace and progress in the region, and she attaches a great importance to the interaction with a friendly Republic of Indonesia, according to Mr Aliyev who went on to share some thoughts of his about the growth of our inter-state and inter-legislature ties.

Mr Aliyev also spoke of Azerbaijan’s glorious victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, crowned with termination of the thirty-year-long Armenian occupation of our lands during which Armenia had destroyed our villages, towns and heritage completely. Those provinces of the country are being revived now; the return of the erstwhile IDP to their native parts has begun.

In defiance of Azerbaijan’s peace treaty bid, Armenia remains destructive in its attitude, is in rampant breach of the Trilateral Statement that drew a line under the former conflict and is trying to lead the international community astray with false claims, according to the parliamentary committee chairman.

Head of the Indonesia-Azerbaijan Group Muhammad Iqbal said that that was his second visit to Azerbaijan and thanked the Azerbaijani side for hospitality. The two-way inter-state and inter-parliamentary connexions alike are gratifying as they are, in the opinion of Mr Iqbal who voiced some considerations about deepening the current co-operation and stressed the relevant importance of the work our legislatures and inter-parliamentary friendship groups are doing.

The parties talked over other matters of shared interest as well.

Other officials attended the meeting, amongst them members of the Milli Majlis WG for connexions with Indonesia Aghiya Nakhchivanli, Elman Nasirov and Aliabbas Salahzade as well as representatives of the Parliament of Indonesia.
