A Meeting with Peruvian MPs on Khojali Genocide
The interparliamentary relations working groups of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Congress of Peru held a joint meeting and shared opinions about the 29th anniversary of the Khojali Genocide on 22 February.
Leader of the Milli Majlis Working Group for interparliamentary connections with Peru Sahib Aliyev welcomed the participants of the meeting and praised the active presence of the friendship groups in the supreme legislatures of both countries. He mentioned the 10 June 2013 statement by the Peruvian Congress deploring the Khojali Genocide, condemning the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and containing a correct legal and political verdict on the massacre committed in Khojali.
Mr Aliyev thanked the Peruvians for that. He said then that Peru was one of the twenty largest countries of the world in terms of territory but that the greatness of a country was measured out in not only its space, economic and military potential but also its adherence to the international standards and defence of justice.
‘Peru is one of the key states of the world to us from this point of view. We have the perpetual respect for the people and state of Peru,’ emphasised the leader of the Azerbaijani parliament’s working group.
Mr Aliyev updated the assembly on the 44-day Patriotic War and expressed a gratitude to Peru again, this time, for the support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity coming from this member of the Non-Aligned Movement that Azerbaijan is helming currently.
The special session of UN on countering the coronavirus was held in December last year at the behest of the President of Azerbaijan, Mr Aliyev mentioned. Our country assisted more than 30 countries in their efforts to overcome the aftermath of the pandemic; besides, Azerbaijan allocated funds to the World Health Organisation.
Leader of the Peruvian Congress’ Working Group for interparliamentary relations with Azerbaijan Guillermo Alejandro Antonio Aliaga Pajares said his thanks for the sincere conversation and voiced Peru’s interest in furthering the relations with Azerbaijan. Peru as a state and as a nation advocates peace, which only pinpoints the import of the document on the Khojali Genocide passed by the Congress, Mr Pajares stressed.
Peruvian MP Ricardo Burga and Azerbaijani Ambassador to Mexico Mammad Talibov stated their respective views on broadening the bilateral parliamentary relations and promoting the economic, humanitarian and educational co-operation as well as on other subjects.
The Peruvian MPs Leonardo Inga Sales and Abiud Ramirez took part in the meeting, too.
