Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova told Secretary General of the TÜRKPA Süreyya Er whom she received on 23 February that the Milli Majlis has deemed co-operation with the TÜRKPA a cause of importance since the very establishment of the Assembly, and has always been energetically involved in its work serving to continue the broadening of the bonds of amity and fraternity uniting our states and peoples. Also, the Milli Majlis has struck up extensive collaboration with the national parliaments of the TÜRKPA member-states – the collaboration that has grown further in the period past.

Turning to the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network then, the leader of the Milli Majlis mentioned international support for the initiatives that President Ilham Aliyev had made as Chair of the NAM. The Network, itself birthed upon the instance of President Aliyev, too, attracts the ever-intensifying international attention, including as a fine platform upon which to broaden co-operation amongst its member-legislatures. With that, Sahiba Gafarova informed Süreyya Er of the Network’s constituent session in Madrid, its first regular conference in Baku and the current run-up to the next conference, which is due to take place in Manama. She also praised the TÜRKPA’s attendance of both the constituent conference of the Network in the Spanish capital and its Baku Conference.

The Parliamentary Network is expanding co-operation with other inter-legislature entities as well, having obtained an observer’s status in these three of them already: the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation and the Arab Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova continued.

Secretary General of the TÜRKPA Süreyya Er thanked Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova for the caring attitude and backing given to the Assembly before providing her with an ample coverage of the workings of the TÜRKPA Secretariat and saying that the Assembly considered co-operation with the NAM Parliamentary Network a profound matter.

A memorandum of understanding regarding co-operation between the NAM PN and the TÜRKPA was signed at the meeting’s conclusion; Chair of the Milli Majlis/NAM PN Sahiba Gafarova and the TÜRKPA Secretary General Süreyya Er attached their respective hands to the document.
