The Working Group of the Milli Majlis for the Azerbaijan-Mexico interparliamentary contacts and members of the Mexico-Azerbaijan Friendship Group in the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the United Mexican States had a joint videoconference on 22 February that was dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the Khojali Genocide.

Leader of the Azerbaijan-Mexico Group Jala Aliyeva spoke of the friendship and co-operation built in the 29 years passed since the day diplomatic relations were established between our countries. She also talked about the importance of the bilateral interstate agreement of co-operation in education, academic research, youth, culture and sports. Mrs Aliyeva thanked the Mexican Senate for the recognition of the Khojali Genocide and added that the friendly Mexico had demonstrated an impartial attitude to the most painful problem of Azerbaijan and had maintained a fair and unbiased view of all the manifestations of Armenian aggression. Mexico was by Azerbaijan’s side at the time of the provocation in Tovuz last summer and at the time at which the townsfolk of Ganja, Barda and Terter were suffering from bombardments during the Patriotic War. Mexico has always backed the international laws.

Mrs Aliyeva called on the Mexican colleagues to join in the efforts to achieve global recognition and fair assessment of the Khojali Genocide that is going to turn thirty next year.

According to Agustin Garcia Rubio who is Leader of the Mexico-Azerbaijan Friendship Group, his country values its friendship with Azerbaijan highly and that this particular meeting is a fine opportunity to broaden the bipartite relations in which the ambassadors of the two countries play a big role, incidentally.

Mexico grieves for the Khojali Genocide. Memorial ceremonies are organised in Mexico every year; the whole humankind ought to become united to make certain that no calamity of the kind happens every again. Azerbaijan was met with the armed aggression on Armenia’s part once more in 2020 and, in a pushback against it, went on to the victory, on which Mr Rubio congratulated our nation. Mexico, a fraternal and friendly country, always stands right next to Azerbaijan, Mr Rubio emphasised then.

Azerbaijan’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Mexico Mammad Talibov who was present at the videoconference touched on the bilateral relations’ progress prospects. His colleague, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mexico in Baku Juan Rodrigo Labardini Flores, held a video presentation displaying charts and colour slides that told of the progress of the trade and economic bonds of his country with Azerbaijan.

The members of the Azerbaijan-Mexico Friendship Group Sabir Rustamkhanli, Ulviya Hamzayeva and Iltizam Khojali shared views on the endeavours made to have the global community recognise the Khojali Genocide. On another note, they remarked that the Azerbaijani side was open to co-operation with all the countries of the world in the business of restoring and rebuilding Garabagh.

Francisco Xavier Guzman de la Torre of the Mexico-Azerbaijan Friendship Group told of the agrarian co-operation opportunities.

All the speakers generally underscored the role of mutual visits, meetings and exchange of experience in the expansion of the interparliamentary relations.

Several other members of the Mexican Parliament’s Friendship Group were attending the videoconference, too.
