Leader of the Milli Majlis Working Group for the interparliamentary relations with Israel Anatoly Rafailov met with the Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan George Dick on 23 February.

Greeting the guests, Mr Rafailov started the conversation by bringing up the friendly ties between the two sides and underlining the tremendous role the high-level relations between the two states’ leaders had in the progress of our multi-faceted co-operation. Jews, too, had chosen Azerbaijan, a motherland to many creeds and peoples, as their home in olden times and have lived here in peace and security since the year dot, Mr Rafailov was saying.

As a leader of the aforementioned working group, Mr Rafailov shared his views of the Azerbaijani-Israeli interparliamentary relations’ prospects. He emphasised the importance of strengthening this co-operation, which is rooted in the time-tested mutual respect and stems from the interests of the nations of Azerbaijan and Israel.

Israel’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Azerbaijan George Dick, in turn, expressed a confidence in the progressive advance of the bilateral bonds from now on, too. He shared how impressed he was by his acquaintance with the Judaist community of Azerbaijan, a country the tolerance of which can serve as an example for other countries to follow. Multiculturalism is an important and integral part of the Azerbaijani society, in Mr Dick’s opinion.

The Israeli ambassador praised Azerbaijan’s unfailing commitment to its principles both during the long years of Armenian aggression and now that the war had been won. He recalled his visit to the then-bombarded combat-time Ganja and said that he shared the whole bitterness of war with Azerbaijan.

There was also an exchange of opinions about the future development routes of the friendship between our states, parliaments and nations – the kind of friendship that passed the test of time with flying colours long ago.
