A Meeting with Mexican Parliamentarians
Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis/Chairman of the parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev met with the visiting Mexican parliamentary delegation led by the head of the Mexico-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group Alberto Villa Villegas on 28 February.
Adil Aliyev told the Mexican guests that he was glad to see them at the Milli Majlis; he passed on the greetings and best regards of the leader of the Azerbaijani legislature Sahiba Gafarova to them then.
As he was giving his thoughts about expanding our economic, trading, inter-parliamentary and other relations and about also promoting bilateral co-operation on the whole, the Vice Speaker touched on the mutual support in international organisations as well and said confidently that the two countries’ linkage would continue progressing, bilaterally as well as internationally in general.
The occupation of Azerbaijan’s lands in Garabagh War I was mentioned as well. Adil Aliyev recalled appreciatively the Mexican Senate’s having recognised the Khojali Genocide, one of the darkest episodes of ethnic cleansing by the Armenian side during the occupation. He thanked the people of Mexico for their just standpoint.
Mr Aliyev moved on to the 44 days’ Patriotic War then. He said that our state had relied on its own devices to enforce the well-known four resolutions of the UN Security Council as it wrested its own lands from Armenian captivity – and the Trilateral Statement was signed eventually, that is, on 10 November 2020. Armenia is not fulfilling all its obligations, is engaged in ecological terror in Azerbaijani territories and members of our public are holding a protest on the Lachin-Khankendi road therefore, the deputy speaker was telling the Mexican guests.
Azerbaijan is acting tenaciously to bring solid peace and co-operation to the region whereas Armenia is being destructive and subversive, so it is important that the international community should influence Armenia, in the opinion of Adil Aliyev.
The head of the Mexico-Azerbaijan Alberto Villa Villegas thanked for the kind reception before saying that advancement of the two-way relations was in the interests of both states and that Mexico was invariably by Azerbaijan’s side. Mr Villegas also underlined the necessity of having internationals support to the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards inking a peace pact.
Members of the Mexican delegation Xavier Kasike Zarate, Elva Agustina Vigil Hernández and Navor Alberto Rojas Mansera talked about co-operation opportunities and about the importance of reciprocal visits, meetings and experience exchange for the broadening of the Mexican-Azerbaijani ties.
The other participants of this meeting included the head of the Azerbaijan-Mexico inter-parliamentary connexions working group Jala Aliyeva and the Azerbaijani and Mexican ambassadors Mammad Talibov and Maria Victoria Romero Caballero.
