The leader of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova responded to the false and groundless claims of the Armenian parliament’s speaker about our country as she spoke at the summary briefing of the CIS IPA 55th plenum in St Petersburg on 14 April.

As he represents a country which destroyed our forests and natural preserves, plundered Azerbaijani natural resources, polluted soils and rivers during the 30-year-long occupation of the internationally recognised Azerbaijani territories, the speaker of the Armenian parliament has no moral right to talk of ‘environmental concerns’ of any sort in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan in the first place, according to Sahiba Gafarova.

The Armenian side are somehow silent about the International Court ruling dismissing completely as unfounded their claims about of the Azerbaijani Government having staged and now backing the protestations on the Lachin Road, and about disruption of natural gas supplies and other utilities. The court ruling agrees with Azerbaijan’s view that the Lachin Road may not be used for illegal military and economic purposes.

The absurdity of the claims about some ‘terror’ against Azerbaijan’s citizens of Armenian descent is in those claims being made by a representative of the state which committed ethnic cleansing and mass murders, drove almost a million Azerbaijan from their native lands by force and annihilated Azerbaijan’s historical and religious sites during the thirty years of occupation.

Also, Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that the allegation that Azerbaijan had occupied Armenia’s sovereign territory did not have a leg to stand on. A state that had occupied 20 per cent of the internationally recognised territory of Azerbaijan in occupation for thirty years and is holding seven villages of Azerbaijan’s Gazakh Province and the village of Karki in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to date, Armenia really ought to get back to the negotiating table and resume the work on a peace treaty and on delimiting its border with Azerbaijan, according to Mrs Gafarova.
