Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis and head of the Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev met with members of the Public Council under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on 13 April.

Speaking to them, Mr Aliyev stressed that our youth policy was founded by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and now successfully continued by the country's president Ilham Aliyev. Adil Aliyev talked about the intense state care of the youth in Azerbaijan, adding that the Milli Majlis paid special attention to youth policy and that the parliamentary committee led by him took care of youth and athletes alike.

Mr Aliyev underlined the importance of coordinated relations between state bodies, federations, clubs and civic institutions in youth and sports affairs, and focused on the significant work of the Public Council to protect the positions and interests of citizens.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to stagnation and slowdown in the youth and sports sectors – as it did in all others. It is all the more important now to get them more active.

The youth and sports policy is one of the priorities of the state, according to Mr Aliyev, who highlighted the role of sport and mass physical culture in raising our youth to be physically healthy and patriotic.

It was also said that it was exactly due to the relevant policy of President Ilham Aliyev, based on the foundation laid by the Great Leader that the spiritually and physically healthy youth made great contributions to our victory in the 44-day Patriotic War.

Chairman of the Public Council under the aegis of the Youth and Sports Ministry Azer Aliyev, in turn, talked about the successful implementation of national youth policy, the work done by the Council, the importance of the volunteer principle and the responsibility that falls on young people in the country.

Other issues of common interest were also discussed at the meeting.
