The Milli Majlis working group for inter-parliamentary connexions with the United Arab Emirates and the friendship committee for Azerbaijan of the UAE Parliament had a videoconferenced meeting on 11 April.

Head of the Milli Majlis WG Javanshir Pashazade opened the meeting, greeted its participants and mentioned the great importance that Azerbaijan attaches to co-operation with the Emirates, adding that meetings and reciprocal high-status visits helped further our relations in every area covered. Turning to the legislatures’ input in the broadening of the two-way co-operation then, MP Pashazade praised the activities of both parliamentary working groups and shared his considerations regarding furthering the growth in that field.

Head of the Committee of Friendship with Azerbaijan in the Federal National Council of the UAE Osama Al Shafar underscored the importance of meetings such as today's for the development of our relations, adding that the bilateral ties serve the interests of our peoples. He stressed the positive influence of parliamentary relations on the relations’ dynamics and stressed the importance of expanding this interaction.

Then the Milli Majlis WG members Jeyhun Mammadov and Soltan Mammadov said that her victory in the 44-day Patriotic War had enabled Azerbaijan to free her lands from the 30-year Armenian occupation. What else they said was that Armenia had destroyed cities and villages, annihilated Azerbaijan’s heritage and historical sites in Azerbaijani territories, demolished mosques and laid the whole infrastructure of those places to waste in the occupation period. The UAE parliamentarians were told about the large construction and restoration projects of Azerbaijan afoot in the freed territories.

The UAE Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohammed al Blooshi expressed satisfaction with the progressing bilateral relations and commented on them, after which there was an exchange of opinions amongst the meeting participants about the future advance of the strategic ties and strengthening inter-parliamentary collaboration.

Milli Majlis Members Aghiya Nakhchivan, Ulviya Aghayeva and Anar Mammadov were amongst the other participants of this meeting.
