TÜRKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations Holds a Meeting

The Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic States held a videoconferenced meeting on 9 March. It was attended by members of the PA delegations of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Member of the Milli Majlis Javanshir Feyziyev representing Azerbaijan.

Commission Chairman Erol Kaya informed the meeting participants about the earthquake in Türkiye and its consequences, and thanked the brotherly Turkic states for their assistance and support to Türkiye in response to the disaster.

The agenda of the meeting was adopted after the welcoming speeches of the member state delegations.

Erol Kaya said then that the meeting was dedicated to the TÜRKPA’s 15th anniversary and co-operation amongst its member-states. A draft report and a recommendatory decision on the issue were then considered. Commenting on them, Mr. Kaya touched upon the importance of the TÜRKPA for further development of Turkic States and enhancement of mutually advantageous co-operation of the member countries in various fields.

A draft report on the same topic was presented by Javanshir Feyziyev, who reported on the activities of the TÜRKPA, the work done over the 15 years of its existence, including commission meetings, seminars and model laws already adopted and yet to be drafted, its participation in election observation missions and international collaboration.

During the discussions, the Azerbaijani MP made a proposal regarding the section of the report on international co-operation, saying that the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement uniting the legislative assemblies of 120 countries had been established on the initiative of our country during Azerbaijan's chairmanship in NAM and suggesting adding the name of the NAM PN to the list of parliamentary organisations with which the TÜRKPA interacts.

Erol Kaya tabled the draft of a relevant recommendation. The Commission members made their comments.

In the end, it was dedicated to bring the draft report ‘The 15th Anniversary of the TÜRKPA: Co-operation Amongst the Member States’ and the draft recommendatory decision before the scheduled plenum of the Assembly.
