Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the Narodna Skupština of Serbia Vladimir Orlić who is in Azerbaijan for the special parliamentary meeting on the centenary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Sahiba Gafarova told the guest that she was glad to welcome him within the Milli Majlis walls and thanked him for his participation and meaningful and interesting speech at the special meeting.

The advance of the strategic partnership between the two states and of their ties of friendship was then noted. As for the personal friendship of the Heads of State, it is an important factor behind the rapid progress of the Serbian-Azerbaijani relations. The fruitful visits of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Serbia in November last year and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to our country in December same year were mentioned during the conversation. Both visits had gone with extensive and significant discussions on the advancement of bilateral relations in various fields, it was remarked.

Azerbaijan and Serbia are backing each other in international organisations as well as bilaterally over such principal matters as territorial integrity and sovereignty.

There are clearly fine opportunities to promote interaction between the Azerbaijani and Serbian legislatures as well. Both have friendship groups in action; a continued acceleration of contacts amongst MPs and friendship groups may bear favourably on the dynamics of the inter-state connexions as a whole.

The conversation continued; Mrs Gafarova and Mr Orlić also discussed several subjects of mutual interest.
