Croatian Parliamentary Delegation Went to Aghdam
The delegation of Hrvatski Sabor, in Azerbaijan for the National Leader Heydar Aliyev Centenary meeting of the Milli Majlis and led by the Croatian Parliament’s Deputy Head Davorko Vidović, travelled to Aghdam on 17 May to see for themselves the traces of the Armenian vandalism once blatant in that town as well as to observe the restoration and revival work apace over there.
Their stay in Aghdam began with a visit to the HQ of the Special Representation Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan covering the de-occupied provinces that are part of the Garabagh Economic Region. The Croatian guests were told of the edifices subjected to Armenian outrage; they were told that the Armenian vandalism had spared neither residential places nor Azerbaijan’s tangible historical heritage.
Also, the Croatian parliamentarians were filled in on the construction work going on in line with the master plan for Aghdam, known as the Caucasian Hiroshima right now but poised for the sure future as one of the most beautiful towns of the region on the initiative of Azerbaijan’s President. The native inhabitants of those lands who were forced to spend thirty years away are bound to return home, the visitors were told.
The Sabor members were also shown round the town ruins the Armenian savages had left behind, the wall of the local drama theatre still intact and the town’s Friday Mosque. Built in 1868, the mosque was plundered and charred just like the other historical buildings of the place. The only reason this architectural gem was left standing is that the Armenian invaders had been using its minarets as observation towers. And cattle had been kept in its praying chamber.
The narrative went over to the work done in the Aghdam Industrial Park established to the presidential decree of 28 May 2021 and intended to open approximately a thousand jobs. The park-based mills will stimulate local production thus contributing importantly to reintegrating regional resources in national economic circles and helping revive Garabagh and push the national non-oil industry’s progress further, the Croatian MPs were told.
MP Konul Nurullayeva who helms the Azerbaijan-Croatia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship WG kept the Hrvatski Sabor delegation company on this trip.
