Member of the British Parliament’s House of Commons and head of the UK-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary group Bob Blackman received from the leader of the Azerbaijan-UK inter-parliamentary connexions group Soltan Mammadov and our extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador in London Elin Suleymanov at a meeting at the Commons the Milli Majlis Medal of Honour he had been decorated with to the 19 May 2023 decree of Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova in recognition of MP Blackman’s contribution to promotion of our inter-parliamentary links and expansion of the inter-state relations.

MP Mammadov passed on to MP Blackman the regards of the leaders of the Milli Majlis, thanked him for his unfailing stance in defence of Azerbaijan’s rightful stance and said that the inter-parliamentary connexions’ growth continued fitting the interests of the two nations.

MP Blackman, in turn, thanked for the award and the hospitality he had enjoyed in Azerbaijan in April 2023. He stressed that he considered his then meeting with the Milli Majlis seniors a token of close attention and special attention to the bilateral relations.

Elin Suleymanov spoke of the successful and comprehensive advancement of those relations and about also the special significance of the close ties between the Azerbaijani and British legislatures in the way of promoting the bilateral bonds.

Interaction between the two sides’ parliamentary friendship groups was discussed then.

Bob Blackman will be remembered to have spoken in defence of Azerbaijan in the British Parliament persistently and to have visited our country on numerous occasion. The delegations he led went to the de-occupied town of Shusha and Fuzuli Province in 2021 and to Aghdam Province in 2023. He has repeatedly made statements condemning the occupation policy of Armenia.
