Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Members of Czech Republic-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Links Group
Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 22 June with the visiting members of the Czech Republic-Azerbaijan inter-legislature connexions group of the Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies.
Sahiba Gafarova told the visitors that she was glad to greet them at the Azerbaijani Parliament and that she hoped their arrival was going to help broaden the links between our legislative assemblies further.
The importance of the contacts and reciprocal visits between the friendship groups of the Azerbaijani and Czech parliaments, and Azerbaijan’s position as a dependable supplier of energy resources to Europe and Europe’s significant economic partner were commented, too, as the meeting continued.
Madam Chair gave the guests a detailed account of the present-day situation in Azerbaijan and the region, not omitting to mention the thirty-year Armenian occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands. For long years, our country had suffered from world-wide double standards, and the decisions and resolutions of international organisations demanding an unconditional end to the occupation of our provinces had remained but on paper for an equally long time. Finally, in 2020, Azerbaijan had the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council carried out independently; our country regained her territorial integrity, and at the same time restored the long-scorned historical justice, according to Sahiba Gafarova.
As for now, Azerbaijan is busy restoring the whole infrastructure as well as rebuilding all the towns and villages that the invaders had laid to waste in the already-liberated areas, Mrs Gafarova remarked them.
Then, there was talk of the obstacles to the freed areas’ revival and of the dangers, posed in either case by the many mines that Armenia planted both during the occupation and after the Trilateral statement was signed. But Azerbaijan wants peace. Azerbaijan has invited Armenia to sign a peace treaty, which is under negotiation currently.
The leader of the Czech-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary connexions group Jan Kubík shared his impressions of Azerbaijan, including of the country’s de-occupied province of Aghdam, and of the meetings and discussions held during the current visit. Mr Kubík stressed the importance of visits such as this one in conveying facts and information about our countries to the public without bias as well as for enhancing the ties between their legislatures.
Other matters of common interest and concern were also discussed in the course of the meeting.
