Members of the Milli Majlis Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Contacts met with the visiting delegation of the Great National Assembly of Turkey headed by Chairman of the GNAT Committee on Foreign Relations Akif Kılıç on 10 March.

Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee Samad Seyidov greeted the visitors before telling them that the ‘one nation – two states’ concept was our way of life, a philosophy of ours. He thanked the Turkish side for the moral and political support given to Azerbaijan at the time of the 44-day Patriotic War and wished that the souls of all the shahids including the servicemen killed in the recent helicopter crash in Turkey rest in peace.

As President Ilham Aliyev declared, building a smaller model of the Turkish Army in Azerbaijan and inviting Turkish businesses to join the work to be done in the de-occupied Azerbaijani lands spell a transition to a completely new stage in the bilateral relations, according to Mr Seyidov. We are certain, he added, that Azerbaijan and Turkey will keep on joining forces to address their problems and will take common ground in international organisations.

Thanking Mr Seyidov for his kind words, Mr Kılıç told him that one could not find anything even close to the relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan in the whole wide world as everybody could see for themselves yet again during the Patriotic War through which Azerbaijan had gone.

While talking about the need in yet stronger interparliamentary bonds, the guest underscored the importance of intensifying two-way visits after the pandemic ends and admitted that coming to Azerbaijan after the gladdening Victory filled him with great pride.

Composing a common Turkish text-book and developing a common information environment were discussed then.

Leader of the Milli Majlis Working Group for Interparliamentary Relations with Turkey Ahliman Amiraslanov, Deputy Chair of the Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Contacts Sevinj Fataliyeva, the same Committee’s Members Javanshir Feyziyev and Asim Mollazade, the Members of the GNAT Committee on Foreign Relations, the Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Erkan Özoral and other officials were taking part in the meeting as well.
