Draft Competition Code Arrives at Milli Majlis

The 12-chapter, 83-article draft of the Competition Code that has arrived at the Milli Majlis by the way of the legislative initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan will, once enacted, amalgamate the laws ‘On Anti-Monopoly Activities’, ‘On Unscrupulous Competition’ and ‘On the Natural Monopolies’.

It should be mentioned that the drafting had been accompanied by extensive discussions with various state departments and business associations whose feedback had been taken into account duly. The document rests on the best international experience in general and, firstly, on that of Turkiye, USA, European Union, Germany, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Besides, the draft is made with the specificities of the national market taken into account.

The adoption of the Competition Code will bring about a national economic growth, make the business environment more agreeable and is very important in terms of promoting free business enterprising. The new Code will ensure sound competition by laying the legal foundations for business operations in that ambience precisely. At the same time, the new Code is intended to protect consumers’ rights and ensure that the quality of products and services becomes yet better.

A public hearing on the Competition Code will be organised with the participation of all the parties concerned at the Milli Majlis.
