Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Azerbaijan Andrey Ravkov on 18 March.

Greeting the guest with sincerity, Madame Chair referred to the traditional friendly bonds between our nations – the bonds which were upgraded after our two countries had become independent. The mutual visits and conversations of the leaders of the two states as well as the bilateral documents signed between Azerbaijan and Belarus ensured energetic political and economic co-operation in recent years. Even last year there were positive achievements in these terms despite the pandemic and the circumstances that went with it, according to Mrs Gafarova.

Such close political and economic interaction bears well on the bipartite humanitarian connections and helps broaden them. The relations of this kind are bringing our nations closer together.

The parliaments of Azerbaijan and Belarus are contributing to the progress of the bilateral relations: both legislatures have the parliamentary friendship groups in action and their members exchange visits and meet and talk at the assemblies of the influential international organisations. This is important and useful for discussion of the matters concerning both sides.

Madame Chair also told Ambassador Ravkov that Azerbaijan had wrenched its lands out of the Armenian occupiers’ grip in the 44-day Patriotic War and had put an end to the occupation that had lasted 30 years. She thanked Belarus for the unfailing advocacy of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in the context of this problem’s solution.

Mr Ravkov thanked Mrs Gafarova for kind reception before telling her that his country was very much interested in furthering the relations with Azerbaijan and that the friendly ties between the two states’ leaders promoted progress in the interaction in many different areas.

It is in the common interest of the two nations to make the interparliamentary contacts deeper; the delegation visits going both ways provide for broader contacts and ensure on-going information exchanges.

Remarking that he had acquainted himself closely with the state of affairs in the de-occupied lands of Azerbaijan, Mr Ravkov added that Belarus was invariably supportive of the territorial wholeness of our country.

Other matters of shared interest were discussed at the meeting as well.
