Iraqi MPs Went to Shusha
The Iraqi parliamentary delegation led by the chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the country’s Council of Representatives Ershad Rashad Al-Salihi went to Shusha on 29 October as part of their visit to Azerbaijan.
The trip on which the guests were accompanied by the head of the Milli Majlis WG for inter-parliamentary relations with Iraq Ilham Mammadov, amongst others, began in Fuzuli Province where the arrivals were shown around the Fuzuli International Airport and took to the ruins left since the Armenian occupation. Besides, the Iraqi delegation were made aware of the Azerbaijani State’s efforts to restore the freed territories, and of relevant projects.
Once in Shusha, the Iraqi MPs learned about the history and current condition of the town, and its reclamation going on under the direct control of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.
Also, the delegation saw the Yukhari Govkharagha Mosques and other heritage mosques of Shusha, and went up to the Jidir Plain. The Azerbaijani MP Ilham Mammadov told them about the Plain, noting that our fearless warriors had scaled steep rocks to reach the place and wrest the town from its captivity at the cost of their lives and blood in the 44 days’ Patriotic War.
The guests then went to the Shusha Stronghold Walls and the Town Square, where they were told that the statutes of the remarkable Azerbaijani culture figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul and Uzeyir Hajibeyli, now installed in the square, had been shot at by Armenian invaders.
That was the end of the trip of the Iraqi Council of Representatives delegation to Shusha.
