Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with Ambassadors of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Croatia and Greece
Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Republic of Azerbaijan Omar Barakat Al-Nahar.
Greeting her guest, the Head of the Milli Majlis congratulated him on the start of diplomatic tenure in our country and said she believed that the bilateral relations would grow further during his mission here.
Azerbaijan and Jordan are two amiable and brotherly countries the diplomatic relations of which had turned 30 earlier this year, Mrs Gafarova said. The bilateral relations are setting high standards; there are ample opportunities to further the co-operation in diverse sectors, she added.
The inter-parliamentary relations constitute an important component of our countries’ bilateral and multilateral ties, according to the Chair of the Milli Majlis who mentioned their high level currently and the significant role in broadening them played by high-status visits and the work done by the friendship groups. The speakers of both houses of the Jordanian Parliament had attended the Baku Conference of the NAM Parliamentary Network last year, Mrs Gafarova mentioned with appreciation, adding that Head of the House of Representatives of the Majlis Al-Umma Ahmad Ali Safadi attended the special National Leader Heydar Aliyev Centenary session of the Milli Majlis in May this year.
As the conversation went on, Sahiba Gafarova also addressed the new realia established in our region following Azerbaijan’s liberation of her lands from the 30 years’ occupation following the 44-day Patriotic War, Azerbaijan’s interest in peace and security in the South Caucasus and the steps are country is taking to that end, and the current large-scale reclamation of the liberated territories.
Ambassador Oman Barakat Al-Nahar said he was glad to have been posted to Azerbaijan, thanked for the reception and declared his intention to make every effort during his ambassial term to ensure a continued growth of the bilateral relations.
Other topics of joint interest were talked over at the meeting as well.

Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in our country Branko Zebić.
Having told the guests that she was glad to welcome him, Sahiba Gafarova remarked that Azerbaijan and Croatia were bonded together with friendship and mutually beneficial co-operation.
The Speaker underscored the exceptional roles of high-level visits and encounters in the progress of our relations, mentioning the weighty contribution to that process from the trips of President Ilham Aliyev to Croatia and the President of the Republic of Croatia to Azerbaijan as well as from the documents that were signed during those trips.
Speaking of the inter-parliamentary connexions, Sahiba Gafarova emphasised in this context the work done by the inter-parliamentary friendship groups and mentioned fondly the arrival of the Vice Speaker of the Croatian Parliament to the Republic of Azerbaijan to attend the special National Leader Heydar Aliyev Centenary session of the Milli Majlis in May this year. She said our country had highly appreciated the visit of the Croatian parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan and a trip taken to the de-occupied town of Aghdam during that visit.
There was then an exchange opinions about the liberation by Azerbaijan of her lands from occupation consequent to the 44 days’ Patriotic War, the anti-terrorist measures of our country that had put an end to Armenian separatism and restored our national sovereignty in full, Azerbaijan’s peace initiatives, the progress of the peace process and the destructive activities aiming to undermine it, and the current situation in the region.
Thanking for the reception, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to our country Branko Zebić talked about the progress of the relations since the diplomatic ties had been established in 1995 and of the presence of numerous opportunities to make our co-operation in diverse fields stronger still.
About the inter-parliamentary relations Mr Zebić mentioned the open dialogue between our parliamentary delegations in the PACE, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the OSCE PA, the NATO PA and other inter-parliamentary organisations.
The economic and humanitarian co-operation, the importance of reciprocal cultural events and other subjects were talked over next.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has had a conversation with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Azerbaijan Christos Capodistrias.
Welcoming the guest, the Speaker congratulated him on the appointment to our country and wished him success in the forthcoming work. Our diplomatic relations turned 30 years in 2022; the meetings of the Heads of State and their conversations are key to the progress of the relationship, Sahiba Gafarova continued.
Mrs Gafarova also mentioned the 24 bilateral documents signed that encompass the Azerbaijani-Greek co-operation in various fields; she underlined the need to continue expanding the treaty legal framework. She also spoke of the joint operations in the energy sector, the importance of the South Gas Corridor and the opportunities to take the co-operation in other areas further.
The inter-parliamentary relations make a substantial component of our countries’ bilateral and multilateral connexions, according to the Head of the Milli Majlis who brought up the significance of the work the two inter-parliamentary friendship groups are doing for the co-operation to broaden. Reciprocal visits of parliamentary delegations, too, serve the cause of bolstering the relationship. Mrs Gafarova proceeded to stress the importance of our MPs’ interaction in inter-parliamentary entities. Sahiba Gafarova mentioned her visits to Greece at different times, as an MP, a PACE rapporteur and, then, to take part in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament.
The current situation in the region, Azerbaijan’s endeavours to maintain peace and stability, and Armenia’s misinformation were talked over as well.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic in Azerbaijan Christos Capodistrias thanked for the kind welcome. He witnessed Greece’s interest in furthering the relations with Azerbaijan and mentioned the potential to boost our relations in various fields. The Ambassador also pointed out that it was necessary to strengthen the inter-parliamentary bonds further before stating his intention to spare no effort to ensure a continued progress of the two countries’ relations.
Broadening the bilateral connexions and other matters of interest to both sides were talked about as well.
