Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets with President of House of Councillors of Parliament of Kingdom of Morocco
Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 14 December with President of the House of Councillors of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco Enaam Mayara.
Enaam Mayara greed the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament cordially and underscored the significance of the political connexions between our countries. Reciprocal visits matter much in this sense, he added. The President of the House of Councillors also voiced his country’s intention to further relations with Azerbaijan in many areas.
It was said then that the relations between our countries were linked to the religious and cultural roots and that our nations upheld similar values. Azerbaijan and Morocco also co-operate and demonstrate solidarity in international organisations.
Our countries have always supported each other's territorial integrity. Congratulating Azerbaijan on the restoration of her territorial integrity and sovereignty, Enaam Mayara said that it was the absolute right of Azerbaijan to do so.
Also, Mr Mayara told Mrs Gafarova about the workings of the House of Councillors and its representativeness in inter-parliamentary institutions.
Thanking for the heartfelt words, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said that Azerbaijan and Morocco were friendly states and partners. She remembered the 1994 visit of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev to Casablanca and his meeting with the late King Hassan II of Morocco. That meeting generated a tremendous momentum behind the growth of the friendly bonds between our countries, according to Mrs Gafarova.
It was further noted that the economic ties are a major component of bilateral relations and that there is scope for greater co-operation in this area.
Also, the two legislature heads emphasised the significance of parliamentary diplomacy, agreed on the need to strengthen the inter-parliamentary connexions and considered what steps could be taken to achieve this.
Sahiba Gafarova updated Enaam Mayara of the post-conflict regional situation. She said that Azerbaijan had freed her lands from the 30-year-long Armenian occupation in 2020 and followed up the end of the Patriotic War by inviting Armenia to sign a peace treaty to be based on five international law principles. However, Armenia has continued political and military provocations and eschewed her assumed obligations these 3 years past. Those provocations made the anti-terrorist measures in Azerbaijan’s Garabagh Region inevitable. Carried out in full compliance with international legal norms, the measures went without a single civilian casualty and resulted in Azerbaijan restoring her own sovereignty, according to Mrs Gafarova.
The liberated lands are being restored based on the green energy, smart town and smart village concepts under the guidance of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, continued the Speaker of the Milli Majlis. The mining by Armenia poses the greatest hurdle to the conduct of that work, she added.
As she was telling Mr Mayara also of the measures to build trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Mrs Gafarova expressed a hope that a peace treaty would be signed soon.
Besides, Sahiba Gafarova broached the presidential elections due in Azerbaijan on 7 February 2024; as she did, she highlighted their historic significance.
Other matters of shared interest were talked over as well during the conversation.
